Musée Yves Saint Laurent Paris, home to Yves Saint Laurent throughout his career, was a must feature in our eyes! We couldn’t look past the intentional construction of this exhibit, “Shapes and Forms”, by German designer, Claudia Weiser. This museum displays not only the art of Yves Saint Laurent but the design work of artist Claudia Wieser who is known for her installations and extraordinary sense of space and setting. No details were missed in the deliberate display of fashion.

Her interpretation of Yve’s work was transformed into a modern and immersive experience bringing color, form, lines and abstract geometric features to the stage. A favorite space of ours showcases silhouettes wearing creations from the 1980’s which are meticulously staged with spatial awareness in mind. These pieces master the use of black and white and showcase a mix of modern and classic minimalist designs.

Yves forward thinking and influence is evident as similar patterns, color blocking, and geometry became prevalent in future years from other designers. Textile pieces are featured throughout the space which seem to act as a play on the geometry and bold colors seen in the clothing designs.

As designers we often immerse ourselves in spaces, such as museums, paying keen attention to how we act or feel. Learning from these experiences helps us implement creative measures which consider the social and psychological needs of those occupying the space. Attention is brought to lighting, color, scale, acoustics and materials; all which address the senses of an individual.
